D#010: Fruit Islands - The Lighthouses

For those of you who do not know them, the Fruit Islands are a sailable and flight community of over 200 connected sims owned by Zoha Islands, one of the most famous estates in Second Life.

Besides plots that people can rent and personalize, there are islands with houses ready to be rented, public hanging out spots - beautifully built and decorated, a few nice marinas with boat slips for rent, and airports.

There are many activities you can do there: from sailing and flight to diving in a few underwater worlds, caves exploring, kayaking, 7 seas fishing, and more.

One thing I particularly love about Fruit Islands is the many lighthouses that can be encountered while sailing between the many islands. I have always been attracted by lighthouses in real life as well, due to their charm and the aura of mystery that surrounds them and with this post I want to pay homage to them.

While some of them are on private parcels - remember to respect the privacy of the people living nearby - others are in public areas and it is worth stopping by to take a closer look.

THE LIGHTHOUSES

#1 Raisin Lighthouse

Sim: Raisin

Url: Raisin Lighthouse

This old 19th century-kinda looking steel lighthouse is on a public hanging out spot, next to Graviola Airport. It is hollow inside so unfortunately it is not possible to walk up to the light room but it is a perfect spot to start the exploration of the nearby underwater world.

#2 Peggy's Point Lighthouse

Sim: Mango

Url: Peggy's Point Lighthouse

This white stone lighthouse is on a public island. A ramp inside allows visitors to walk up to the light room.

#3 Karonda Lighthouse

Sim: Karonda

Url: Karonda Lighthouse

Off-white stone lighthouse, unfortunately hollow inside, located on a public hanging out place in the bayou part of the Fruit Islands. My favourite.

#4 Yaquina Lighthouse

Sim: Citrus

Url: Yaquina Lighthouse

A red and white stone lighthouse with connected home, located right above a diving area - Citrus. The lighthouse lays on a rock in the middle of the sea and access to it is granted by a stone bridge. The lighthouse and connected home are empty inside and it not possible to walk up to the light room.

#5 Badgers Before Bitches Lighthouse

Sim: Soursop

Url: Badgers Lighthouse

Off-white stone ligthouse, decorative only (hollow inside). I am not sure if the parcel where it is located is private or public as I did not receive any security orb messages while I was there. Just to be sure, respect the privacy of the people living there and stay out of their home.

#6 Granadilla Lighthouse

Sim: Granadilla

Url: Granadilla Lighthouse

Old looking rusty brick lighthouse, hollow inside. Located on a private parcel.

#7 Acerola Lighthouse

Sim: Acerola

Url: Acerola Lighthouse

Off-sim white and red lighthouse, hollow inside. Located on a private parcel.

#8 Melinjo Lighthouse

Sim: Melinjo

Url: Melinjo Lighthouse

Off-white/grey stone lighthouse. There is a ramp inside that allows visitors to climb up to the light room. I am not sure if the parcel where the lighthouse is located is public or private as no security orb messages were received while I was there. Just to be sure, I kept myself out of the property.

The Fruit Islands are connected to two groups of sailable sims: Eden Naturist Estates and The North Sea that is between Eden and the Fruit Islands.

These are the lighthouses I met while sailing between them:

#1 Robbins Reef Light

Sim: Eden Murrelet

Url: Robbins Reef Light

A North Sea kinda steel lighthouse located nearby a small marina. There is a ramp inside which allows visitors to go up to the light room.

#2 Montauk Light

Sim: The North Sea - Genip

Url: Montauk Light

A tall white-brown stone lighthouse located on a promontory home of a group of pelicans. A ramp inside allows visitors to walk up to the light room. The island is open to everyone.

#3 Sanibel Island Lighthouse

Sim: The North Sea - Ziziphus

Url: Sanibel Lighthouse

A bright red steel lighthouse standing on a public island with beach cabins available for rent. The lighthouse has a ramp that allows visitors to climb up to the light room.

Unfortunately, I found out right when I was writing this post that one of the lighthouses I spotted during one of the first exploration journeys between all these islands is now gone. I will post it anyway here as it was one of my faves. This shows how quickly things can change in Second Life!

#4 Old Orchard Shoals

Sim & Url not available anymore

The lighthouse was located on a small island, open to the public. What made this island particular was the presence on the beach of a group of seals. I loved it here.

If you know of more lighthouses that I did not include in this list, please let me know in the comments!
