D#006: Bayou du Chat Noir (Winter 2020)

Bayou du Chat Noir's Main Street

A "bayou" is a slow moving stream or river, often a wetland or swamp, typical of the southern part of the United States.

Bayou du Chat Noir is set in Southern Louisiana and the feeling you get at landing is that of being carried into the past with its retro-looking buildings and the aura of mystery and esotericism associated with voodoo, an ancient religion that has solids roots in these areas.

Nature does its part as well, with the dense vegetation and numerous canals: many are the animals and secrets that hide in the shallow waters.

Upon landing, you are given a notecard with a list of the sim's attractions and the related landmarks. What I feel like suggesting is to take all the time necessary and to visit the sim by foot because many are the little surprises scattered here and there that you would miss if you move using teleports only.

    Wait....is that.... a mermaid?

    Can you spot the bear?

I started my visit from the Main Street, the pulsing heart of the city, with its post office, general store, barber shop, oyster bar and restaurant, two art galleries, a library, a photo studio, a boat rental and a hotel, which seemed fully booked!

The voodoo shop is particularly interesting to visit where you can feel the energy coming from all the masks hanging on the walls and the skull exposed in full view.

Other places to visit are the pet cemetery, the Love Shack and Voodoo Bar located next to the little Chapel, the cemetery and the Community Building. Rumors say that the restless souls of a girl and a boy can be seen wandering around the cemetery during full moon nights.

Walking along the shores of the bayou, many are the small corners where you can stop and enjoy the peace and tranquillity of these places. Just be careful not to put your feet in the water, let alone decide to go for a swim. The waters here are infested with alligators who seem to be always hungry....

Bayou du Chat Noir is one of those sims that deserves a visit at least once. I visited it in winter, close to Christmas time, and by using a dark (midnight) windlight for my pictures I not only tried to enhance the athmosphere of mystery that surrounds the place but also enhance the Christmas lights and decorations that would probably be lost with a daylight setting. I will definately be back when the season changes.
