D#007: Winter in New York & The Poconos Ski Resort (Winter 2020)

The Poconos Ski Resort

RL New York is a huge attraction all year round, with its immense skyscrapers that make you walk around with you chin up in the air, its lights and the traffic at all hours: it's no coincidence that New York is also called "the city that never sleeps".

There is something different about visiting New York during winter and I challenge anyone to tell me they never dreamt of spending their Christmas holidays in the Big Apple at least once in their life! The snow, combined with the lights and Christmas decorations make the athmosphere of the city even more magical and incredible in this particular time of the year.

I had the honor and pleasure of visiting Winter in New York a few weeks ago with my partner Dirk - The SL Hotel Inspector. At that time, we stayed at the Dinzel Hotel on the 42nd Street (read Dirk's review here: https://virtualhotels.online/blog/review-winter-in-new-york-) and the place stole my heart already back then.

This time my amazing boyfriend decided to surprise me by booking the Deer Run cabin in the Poconos Mountains, the new attraction from the owners of Winter in New York, Tye De Roca (tye.dinzel) and Gabriel De Roca (wassup.bruh).

The place is beautiful and very relaxing, with its high mountains and the light snow that falls continously and really gives you this sense of tranquillity and calmness, at least this is the effect that the snow falling has on me.

The Christmas fir and the ice-skating pond

The first thing that is impossible not to notice is the beautiful fir and its lights placed at the centre of a frozen pond, a perfect place to ice skate. Immediately next to it, an open gazebo with a glass roof allows you to enjoy a cup of coffee or hot chocolate while chilling with your loved one(s) by the fire.

Many are the attractions and activities the place offers, apart ice-skating. There is a carousel with its games (ring throwing, darts, Santa balloons popper just to name a few) and it is possible to ride the sleigh with Santa!

Next to the carousel there is a cable car that brings you to the top of the mountain overlooking the resort from which you can enjoy a stunning view over the whole place from above. Once there, you can decide to go back down by hang gliding - a must try as the view from up there is breath-taking - or you can opt for the ski/snowboard/tube slope. Me and Dirk tried both the hang-gliding (after Lush Tulum, we are kinda experts on that!) and the tube and had so much fun. Do not worry if you don't have skis or ice-skates or a snowboard as all these equipments are provided for free on site!

If you book your stay in Poconos, you have permission to visit New York as well. The connection is provided by a 24/7 bus service (teleport), which means you can go to the city anytime you want. There is so much to do and see in the City: from a walk through its streets to admire the different neighborhoods (Chinatown on top of the list) to a visit of Central Park to ice-skate at the Rockefeller Center or enjoy a coffee at Starbucks or Melody's. There are also a few restaurants (RP dinners available - please contact staff for booking) where you can appreciate a good meal with your loved one(s), a beauty salon and even a gaming-fun area with many arcade games, an aero-gravity chamber, where you can experience indoor skydiving, and a "Catch the Flag" gaming room!

Both Poconos and Winter in New York are not open to the public and access is allowed by group only (an invitation is sent to you upon booking of your stay). Both places have been built with great attention to detail and many are the things to do and see  that a visit is totally worthy. Moreover, keep in mind that these are two seasonal destinations which means they will be open and available for a limited time.

I am glad I had the chance to visit them before they are gone, I have to thank my amazing partner for this ❤.
